Berkeley Trash Day is designed to work without knowing who you are or exactly where you live. The report form asks only for a selected West Berkeley street range, one or more collection types, and an observed pickup day.

What a report stores

What we do not ask for

The project does not ask for your name, email, phone number, account, exact address, photo, or location coordinates. Please do not submit personal information through the service.

Technical data

The hosting provider may temporarily process standard connection data, such as an IP address, to deliver the site and enforce abuse limits. The application does not place that information in its community-report database.

The site does not currently include Google Analytics, Google Ads tags, tracking pixels, or another browser analytics SDK. If server-side Netlify Web Analytics is enabled, Netlify derives aggregate pageviews, popular pages, referral sources, and broad locations from requests its hosting network already serves. Those aggregates are operational measurements and are not joined to community reports.

The Terms acknowledgement is held only in the current page's memory so buttons can be enabled. It is not sent to the report database, stored in a cookie, or retained after the page is reloaded.

The interactive map loads map tiles and style resources from OpenFreeMap. Like other web hosts, that provider receives ordinary connection data such as your IP address and browser request headers when those map resources load. Address and street search text stays in your browser, is not stored, and is not sent to the application server or a third-party geocoder.

Retention and purpose

Reports contribute to the schedule for 180 days. They are used only to calculate street-range community agreement and maintain the service. The project does not sell community-report data.

Hosting providers retain technical and aggregate operational data under their own service terms. Berkeley Trash Day does not use report data for advertising or build profiles of residents.

Unofficial community information

Berkeley Trash Day is an independent, open-source community project and is not affiliated with the City of Berkeley. For an official schedule, call Berkeley Zero Waste at (510) 981-7270 or use the City of Berkeley website.
